Supporting Israel related causes (in cash or kind) that embody Penn values.
The Penn Club of Israel currently supports an Ethiopian Nursing Student with financial assistance for her studies and arranged for her to work as a paid researcher at Tel Aviv University. The nursing student will travel to Rwanda to volunteer at a boarding school for the orphans of the massecres there. The school, Agahozo Shalom Youth Village (www.agahozo-shalom.org), was built by a Penn Alumna on the educational model of the Israeli Youth Village Yemin Orde http://www.yeminorde.org/ Since opening with 130 eigth graders in January 2009, Ethiopian-Israeli volunteers rotate visiting the school for a period of three weeks to facilitate the teachers implementing informal educational programs developed in Israel. Sebla Berhanu the nursing student the Penn Club supports is part of the team working in Rwanda. Nobel prize holder Elie Wiesel is also an active supporter of both Yemin Orde Youth Village in Israel and the Rwanda Project.
